Tergar Australia 2025 Open House
Looking to start a new meditation practice or perhaps you need some ongoing support for your existing practice?
Whether you a brand new to meditation or an experienced practitioner, It’s never been a better time to connect with Tergar Australia as we head into 2025 with an exciting slate of new programming and events on the horizon.
We know how challenging it can sometimes be to link up with a community of new people, so we’re hosting our first ever ‘Open House’ for 2025 to help break the ice.
This is a free event taking place on Zoom from 7-8pm (Melbourne-time) on Tuesday, February 4.
During this hour you’ll get to meet and hear from all members of Tergar Australia leadership, including our Australian-based Instructors and co-founders of Tergar International, Myoshin and Edwin Kelley. You’ll also get to meet fellow practitioners and community members. Whether you want to ask questions or just sit back and observe, all are welcome.
Following a short guided meditation, we’ll have a series of short presentations from each of our working groups and will cover everything from our Thursday night weekly meetings and 1-on-1 interviews to In-Person practice opportunities and Weekend Buddhist study and practice groups. We’ll also discuss future plans for international practice in Kathmandu and Mingyur Rinpoche’s next potential visit to Australia.
This will be a short and casual opportunity for any new practitioners to test the waters or simply say hello to make an initial connection. We hope to see you there!
Zoom link is below - no pre-registration required.
Intro to Meditation - Free Course
Are you interested in becoming more at home with yourself, and living with greater ease and flourishing?
On Tuesday, 11 February from 7-8:30pm (Melbourne-time) we welcome you to join us to learn a simple and accessible way to meditate.
In addition to the techniques, in this session we will explore why we practice, the benefits of having a regular meditation practice, and how to set up a daily practice.
In this opportunity to learn and connect with like-minded people, you will see video teachings from renowned meditation teacher Mingyur Rinpoche, experience guided meditations with respected and long-time teachers Myoshin & Edwin Kelley as well as an opportunity to ask questions.
Please feel free to join us for this evening, which is freely offered. For those who are interested beyond this evening, there is support, a step-by-step path and a welcoming and growing community all available.

about your instructors
Myoshin Kelley
At a young age, Myoshin decided that school could not teach her what she wanted to know and decided that life would be her teacher. This led her to a lifelong journey of living in spiritual communities while exploring the inner terrain of being human.
Myoshin received dharma instruction from renowned Buddhist teachers Chanmyay Sayadaw, Sayadaw U Pandita, Sayadaw U Tejaniya, and Hogen Yamahata. She also developed a great love of retreats and at one point temporarily ordained as a nun in Myanmar.
Myoshin’s training as a meditation teacher began with Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg at the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in 1994. She was appointed the teacher in residence at the Forest Refuge, the long-term practice center at IMS, in 2003.
In 1998, Myoshin was introduced to Mingyur Rinpoche. Twelve years later she moved to Minneapolis to help Rinpoche and others with the formation of Tergar Meditation Community. For a decade she led the team to oversee the formation of Tergar meditation groups and the training of Tergar community leaders. As a Tergar instructor, Myoshin leads programs that experientially explore how the practice of meditation and the wisdom of an open heart support the path of awakening.
Nature has been a strong teacher and support for Myoshin throughout her life. She loves to do solitary retreats in nature as well as hike, bike, cross-country ski, and now swim in the ocean on the beautiful Sapphire Coast in Australia, where she lives with her husband Edwin.
Edwin Kelley
Edwin Kelley attended his first meditation retreat near Perth, Australia in 1975. He later pursued a career as a public accountant and in 1992 went to Burma to undertake a six-month period of intensive meditation practice with meditation master Chanmyay Sayadaw. While practicing in Burma he ordained temporarily as a Buddhist monk.
In 1994 he was hired as Director of Operations by one of America’s best known meditation retreat centers, the Insight Meditation Society (IMS), in Barre, MA. Eighteen months later he was appointed Executive Director of IMS and served in that capacity until 2003 when he resigned to pursue further long-term intensive meditation practice.
Edwin first encountered Vajrayana Buddhism in Dharamsala, India in 1993 and became a student of Mingyur Rinpoche in 1998. He has a post graduate diploma in Buddhist Studies from the University of Sunderland in the UK.
In 2009, Edwin and his wife Myoshin, moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to help establish the global Tergar Meditation Community, where he then served variably as Executive, and Co-Executive Director, and CFO, until retiring from his administrative role with Tergar International at the end of 2022. He now lives on the Sapphire Coast in southern NSW, Australia.

Tergar Australia Annual Community Retreat
This residential retreat is a unique opportunity for anyone wishing to practice in accordance with the teachings of Mingyur Rinpoche and under the guidance of experienced Tergar instructors Edwin Kelley and Myoshin Kelley, to come together and meditate, regardless of where you might be on the path.
The residential retreat will unfold at Rocklyn Ashram, a tranquil setting on the edge of the Wombat State Forest near Daylesford. The peaceful natural environment is home to natural bush, incredible permaculture gardens, grassy knolls surrounding the lake. The buildings have been lovingly created over years with mudbrick, timber and rammed earth. The practice spaces are truly inspiring and we are so excited to have been able to secure this venue for us.
If you have never meditated before, or just a beginner, you will be supported to engage in how to meditate, and to establish a regular daily practice.
If you are already a student of Mingyur Rinpoche, regardless of whether you are practicing the Joy of Living, or the Path of Liberation, you will receive skilled instruction and guidance on how to progress along the path. You will also be able to use the retreat time towards practice requirements for both Joy of Living and Path of Liberation.
This program will include video teachings from Mingyur Rinpoche as well as instruction and guided meditations from our mentors Edwin Kelley and Myoshin Kelley who are founding members of Tergar International.
You will also have the opportunity for small group discussions and one-on-one guidance with Edwin and Myoshin.
This program is open to everyone, however if you are new to the Tergar community, a brief introduction and/or hello will be arranged before confirming your position. Similarly, for those who have never attended a residential retreat, we will also arrange a short call to help you prepare for the retreat experience.
