Topic: Meditating on Compassion — Deepening Session

Deepening sessions focus on integrating the principles and practices presented in the previous opening session with daily life and on refining one's experience in meditation. Sessions start and end with a 10 minute meditation period. The middle period of each session features short experiential exercises, video teachings by Mingyur Rinpoche, and/or practices designed to link meditation with daily life. These sessions also feature short periods of small- and large-group discussion.

There is no greater inspiration, no greater courage, than the intention to lead all beings to the perfect freedom and complete well-being of recognising their true nature. Whether you accomplish this intention isn’t important. The intention alone has such power that as you work with it, your mind will become stronger;your mental afflictions will diminish; you’ll become more skillful in helping other beings; and in so doing, you’ll create the causes and conditions for your own well-being.

Over the next few weeks, we will explore the practice of compassion meditation, learning how to open our hearts to the world around us and relax the self-centered tendencies that lead to anxiety, dissatisfaction, and suffering. Cultivating compassion helps us to see the basic goodness that all beings share. By relating to others in an open-hearted way, we bring peace to the mind and develop a sense of confidence and purpose. This, in turn, naturally brings harmony to our relationships and enables us to work with challenging situations more effectively.

Suggested Reading: Joy of Living, pp.178 - 189

You can download and print the Session Handout with suggested reading and daily meditation practices here. Each week, we explore Mingyur Rinpoche's teachings with the support and guidance of a comprehensive meditation group curriculum based on Mingyur Rinpoche's books, The Joy of Living and Joyful Wisdom. The curriculum covers the core teachings of the Joy of Living program and includes guided meditations, experiential exercises and questions for group.

This event is offered freely and at no-cost, however donations are warmly welcome and accepted here.
