Working with emotions in daily life — Practice Session.
Practice sessions provide an opportunity to focus on the meditation practices presented in each section of the meditation group curriculum. Each session alternates between periods of sitting and walking meditation, Practice sessions usually do not include any group discussion or teachings.
Ultimately, happiness comes down to choosing between the discomfort of becoming aware of your mental afflictions and the discomfort of being ruled by them. I can’t promise you that it will always be pleasant to simply rest in the awareness of your thoughts, feelings and perceptions, and to recognise them as interactive creations between your own mind and body. In fact, I can pretty much guarantee that looking at yourself this way will be, at times, extremely unpleasant. But the same can be said about beginning anything new, whether it’s going to the gym, starting a job, or beginning a diet.
In this nine-session series, we will explore the practice of using emotions as a support for mindful awareness. Below you will find more information on the topics we will be meditating on, as well as suggested weekly readings from Mingyur Rinpoche's books, meditation instructions for use in daily practice, and links to useful online teachings
Suggested Reading: Joy of Living, pp.168 - 171
You can download and print the Session Handout with suggested reading and daily meditation practices here.
